Yes folks, my little girls is a year and a half! That's right, 18 months old today.

We paid a little trip to the Doctor this Valentine's Day for her 18-month check up.
Weight: 24 lbs 8 oz (54th %)
Height: 34" (97th %)

She is up to about 75 words and 10 sounds (like animals sounds, trains etc.)

Her favorite foods are pizza, spaghetti and yogurt

She loves her "babies" aka stuffed animals and dolls.

She likes to line up her toys.
And root beer cans apparently.
Her new favorite thing to do is "upsidedown"

She is so full of spunk and energy and is always smiling and laughing.Being her mommy makes me smile every day.

It's Valentine's Day and I can feel the L-O-V-E! Brandon and I celebrated V Day last weekend with sort of a western theme - dinner at Outback then to the movies to see True Grit. We fit in a walk on the beach and some Cold Stone to round out the night. Oh yeah and the whole night cost $5. Thanks for the Christmas gift cards everyone!! My mom was sweet enough to keep Ella for us. I love spending time with my man, but it's funny how much we miss being away from Ella even if it's for just a few hours.
I made some cute wax paper hearts to add a little Love to our apartment.

Then for dinner tonight we had heart-shaped BBQ chicken quesadillas & cornbread muffins with heart-shaped brownies for dessert. YUMM-O

I have been babysitting my 6-month-old nephew Ollie a couple times a week for the past few months since my sister Laura went back to work. He is cute as a button and we love having him around.

It has been interesting for me to see what it will be like to have two kids. I can tell it will be a lot of work, but it's not quite the same since he gets picked up at the end of the day.

Ella absolutely adores him. Every time she wakes up she says "Ollie Ollie!" and wants to go out to the living room and see if he is there.

They make such good playmates and I'm really happy Ella has the opportunity to have another little one to play with, even if there is a bit of an age gap (one year). She loves to give him his bottle and pat his back when he needs to be burped.

Having another baby in the house is great for teaching Ella about sharing - a totally foreign concept to an only child. As you can see by this picture, Ella is teaching Ollie how to share his hat, binky and chewy rings. He doesn't seem to mind for now.

It's fun to watch them interact and see how they communicate with eachother.

He is growing so fast and is almost ready to start crawling. He is such a sweet little guy and I am one proud auntie!

Thanksgiving 2010

We spent Thanksgiving in Sacramento with Brandon's side of the fam. It was such a fun trip. I loved that the weather was cool and it actually felt like Autumn. I do love living where it is 75 degrees year round, but it is fun to visit places that actually get colder.

Ella briefly crashed at the airport, but woke up as we went through security. She stayed awake on the plane until we landed around 11pm. She did well on the flight until she couldn't get her ears to pop on the descent... not fun... but we survived.
Ella woke up just in time for her first real Thanksgiving meal. Yay solid food!

We spent some time visiting the resting places of Brandon's much loved and missed Grandfathers.

Growing Up

Ella is 15 months old today. She said mommy this morning for the first time. She babbles mamama a lot, but today Brandon asked her where mommy was and she looked right at me, pointed and said "Mommy!" It was the best feeling, especially since she's been saying Daddy for months! Ella can now clearly say: Daddy, Mommy, Baby, Cat, Dog, Pig, Bug and I'm sure lots others we just haven't understood yet. She can sign "eat" and "more". She can growl like a tiger, say "who who" like and owl, and say "choo choo" like a train. She pretends to talk on the phone and can give high fives. I can't believe how much she is growing and understanding. I feel so blessed to spend every day with this little person so full of happiness and love.

Halloween

This Halloween weekend was so much fun. We started out going to Tanaka Farms in Irvine. We rode on a wagon pulled by a tractor over to the petting zoo. Ella isn't a fan of petting large farm animals yet. Maybe I'll give her another year to get comfortable with this tradition. We ate some homemade pumpkin bread and wandered in a little corn maze before finally finding the perfect pumpkin.
Ella liked the ones that were her size.

Ella's sticker says "Farmer in Training". She was pretty pooped after her fun day.
But soon she was awake and ready to get into her costume! Ella was a sweet strawberry this year.

We went to our Ward party where Ella got to do some trick-or-treating. This is her second Halloween, but being only two months old last year, this is her first time really experiencing it.

She won best costume in the costume parade and had fun chasing the boys around the gym.

Brandon and I went as "a pair of blue jeans" (our name tags say Gene & Jean). Kind of a cop out costume, but it was all we could come up with last minute. I like costumes that don't require a lot of effort and/or many embarrassing elements :)
We took Ella to the Walnut ward party with the Stewarts, where the camera sat in Brandon's pocket all night, but we had a fun time seeing old friends.
We also went to my mom's house to carve pumpkins and have dinner.

We took the girls to a couple houses to trick-or-treat because we didn't think they had got enough candy already that weekend. And we just wanted more pictures of them in their costumes.Wonder Woman (Riley, age 3), Super Girl (Eva, age 2), & The Strawberry (Ella, age 1)

I am sad to pack her costume away, she was such a cute little strawberry. Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!!!

Bridge to Nowhere

A few weeks ago Brandon and I dropped the munchkin at my mom's and went on a hike to the Bridge to Nowhere in the San Gabriel Mountains. It was such a fun day. The weather was hot, but perfect for trudging through the cold streams (that you have to cross MANY times).

Bungee jumpers. You couldn't pay me to do this! I know they say it is perfectly safe, but, call me crazy, I just don't enjoy the "rush" of feeling like you might die.

The sky was blue and it felt so good to be out in nature. It was the perfect date. It was just the kind of escape we needed. We really need to do that more often. I can't wait to go back and do it again or find other places to go explore.

This post is in honor of my mom's sweet teacup chihuahua that passed away this week. She was such a sweet little dog and was a loving part of our family for many years.

Darla struggled with health issues and after a few days in the hospital and numerous lengthy seizures, the decision was made to let her have some peace. It will be sad to not have her snuggles and kisses. We will miss you Darla.

We had a little party for her at Grams and Grandpa Stewart's house. It was so much fun. Ella had a blast. She was pretty worn out from all the playing and swimming.

Ella had her nine month check up yesterday. Here are her stats:

Weight: 19 lbs 6 oz (57th percentile)
Height: 28.7" (82nd percentile)
She's finally getting down to a normal weight percentile, but I will miss her rolls.

She loves cruising along the furniture and standing on her own. She'll probably be walking soon...yikes!

Here's Ella having a bath after we got home from the Dr.'s yesterday. She just started laying down and "swimming" in the tub. It's the cutest thing ever.

You can see her little band-aid from her flu shot. Luckily that was the only shot she needed and she didn't even flinch, let alone cry. I was glad she didn't even seem to notice it! Unfortunately, she also needed blood drawn for a routine check for lead poisoning and anemia. They took it from her finger, and she scrreeeeeamed the whole time :( I don't blame her. I HATE having blood drawn. But, she got over it real quick and was making crazy noises for all the pharmacists at the pharmacy and making them laugh just a half hour later.

Things have been really busy around here lately. I have one presentation down, one left to go at school and two finals next week. Then I just have one summer class and two in the fall and I. AM. DONE. Can't wait!!! I hope I can get all my cramming in by next week. We are going to Sacramento this weekend. Unfortunately it is for the funeral for sweet Grandpa Patton. Brandon and I are SO glad we got to go spend some time with them last month. It will be a sad way to spend my birthday, but a bittersweet reminder of how precious every year of life on this earth is. I think I will squeeze my loved ones a little tighter every day this year. It will be nice to see all the family though. I am glad Ella will get to see her cousins that live so far away. She loves to play with other kids and doesn't get to all that often. I am so grateful for family and can't wait until summer when everything will slow down a bit and we can just relax and have fun as a family. We went on a family walk on Monday night. I had to convince Brandon to take a leisurely walk with Ella and I instead of his usual intense run (he likes to feel accomplished!), but I was so glad we did. It was so nice to just stroll and talk. We don't spend nearly enough time just relaxing and talking anymore. If it's not too late to set a new years resolution, maybe mine will be to spend more quality time with the ones I love. Family is my greatest blessing and the happiest part of my life.

Sacramento

Last Saturday we did a day trip to Sacramento to visit Grandma and Grandpa Patton. It would be Ella's first time on a plane and her first time meeting her Great Grandma and Grandpa. She did great on the plane. We watched some Baby Einstein and she was happy as a clam.

We had a great time visiting with Grandma and Grandpa and Auntie Karen. It was so nice to see them.

It was hard to leave at the end of the day. We were sad it was such a short trip, but were so glad we got to go.

Taking Flight

This Saturday we will be taking Ella on her first flight on an airplane. We are going up to Sacramento and back to visit Grandma and Grandpa Patton who will be meeting Ella, their great granddaughter, for the first time! We are so excited and can't wait to go. I'm a little nervous to see how Ella will do on the plane. If anyone has any tips for making plane trips with babies a little easier, please comment!

Arizona

Last weekend we headed out to Arizona for some spring training baseball. We saw the Angels vs the Giants in Scottsdale on Friday,

then saw them play again on Saturday at the Angel's stadium in Tempe.

The weather was in the mid seventies and slightly breezy. Can't get much more perfect than that for baseball.

Ella did really good most of the time, she would get a little restless here and there (can you believe a 7-month-old wouldn't stay in her seat for a four hour game? so rude!) so we would take turns walking her around the stadium. She had fun watching all the people and trying to talk to the other babies she saw. She even squeezed in a nap at Friday's game.

It was also our anniversary on Friday and that night our hotel room number was the same number as our first apartment we moved into when we got married! Isn't that sweet? How sentimental...

We got to visit some friends and eat some really good food.

Ella did great on the car trip. It was about 4-5 hours each way and she slept almost the whole time. When she wasn't sleeping she was sweetly singing to her toys. She is such a sweet girl.

Solvang 2010

This past weekend we went up to Solvang for the annual century bike ride. Brandon and his dad conquered 100 miles on their bikes on Saturday through the beautiful countryside just north of Santa Barbara. The wind was brutal, but it didn't rain.

Deborah, Ella and I tried to stay warm by eating custard puffs and sipping hot chocolate in Mortensen's Bakery.

This weekend we gave Ella her first taste of rice cereal. She seemed to like it fine, but has a lot of work to do to master this new concept of eating from a spoon.

She is a hands on kind of girl and wanted to feel the cereal as it went into her mouth.

Then she kept trying to bite the bowl.

Then she just wanted to chew on the spoon.

We'll work on it!

Also... she has mastered her army-crawl-scoot-slide method of getting around.

Ella's 6 Months on V-Day

Ella is 6 months old now! Her half-birthday was on Valentines Day

Here are her stats from her check up this week:

Weight: 17 lbs 13 oz (84th percentile)

Length: 27" (90th percentile)

She did not enjoy the shots. Mostly because our nurse took her sweet time with each shot, stretching out the whole process. I almost went into panic mode and snapped at the nurse, but was able to control myself. It's hard hearing your baby scream. I opted to have them give her two additional shots - the regular flu and H1N1 flu shots, but was regretting it when she was crying :( But she recovered later that day and now she won't get the flu!

She is loosing some of her chub. We discovered she actually does have a neck! It seems she is starting to stretch out. Think it's too early to sign her up for basketball? It's so cute to see her features become more prominent and her personality come out. She is getting more mobile every day.

Brandon and I celebrated Valentines Day with our first date since Ella was born. Brandon had Monday off, so we went to the movies and saw Avatar (in 3D awesomeness!) and went to Black Angus. It was a great date, but even better since it was free - we had gift cards - Score! It was so much fun to be out just the two of us, but we missed our baby. We tried not to, but we just kept saying, "I wonder what Ells is doing." She had a great day with her Grandma Jensen, they went for a walk and played with toys.

I bought Rice cereal, a sippy cup and spoons for Ella this week. *sniff* She is growing up.

I went back to school this week for the first time post baby. (I did take an online class this winter, but I got to stay home and do it in my pj's so this is a little different.) I'm taking two night classes this semester. It feels weird being out in society... by myself... without a stroller. It's a little liberating, but I miss my baby! Even though I'm only gone a couple of hours, I find myself worrying and wondering what her and Brandon are doing. She is such a happy baby though, so I'm sure she is fine without me. AND it is nice to have a little break now and then. Only a few more classes to go! Wish me luck!

Our little Ella is now four months old. She had her check up today and here are her stats:
Weight - 16 lbs 11 oz
Length - 23.25 in

She loves to look at her reflection in the mirror, make weird noises (we call it singing), and tries to put everything in her mouth. She is still working on the hand-eye coordination though, so the object doesn't always get to her mouth as fast as she would like. She is starting to get more mobile, moving in circles when placed on her tummy, and rocking to the left and right when lying on her back. She has rolled over several times, but doesn't do it all the time. She is such a happy baby, always smiling and laughing. Her facial features are really starting to come out as she gets older. She is such a beautiful girl and she is growing so fast!

Today is Brandon's birthday so I wanted to take a minute to publicly announce what a wonderful man he is. (And totally embarrass him. **WARNING: Major sappiness ahead.**) Brandon is the greatest husband, father and friend and I am so blessed to have him as my eternal companion. He always makes me laugh, he is so considerate of others, he always helps out, he has such a good heart and he does the dishes. He is such a great and caring father and Ella adores him.

Okay, moving on... Of course we celebrated! Here's what we did.

We had dinner at my mom's house on Sunday and cake at my Dad's.

We decorated my Dad's Christmas tree and had some family-filled good times.

Yes I made the cake, and no it's not for an eight year old girl. He wanted strawberry cake and I guess I got a little crazy with the pink decorations. It was good though.

Today we went to Disneyland with Brandon's mom, Deborah, and his sister, Lindsay.

We had an awesome breakfast buffet and Ella got to meet Minnie Mouse.

Captain Hook hung out with us and tried to steal our jewelry... sneaky sneaky

It was Ella's first time at Disneyland and she had a blast. Well, she slept a lot and got a little fussy when we tried to take her on Pirates of the Caribbean, but the rest of the time, she was having fun.

It was a little chilly, but luckily there was no rain.

Grams bought Ella a hat and gloves. They were a little big, so it looked like she had lobster claws. So cute.

We were pretty tired at the end of the day, but we had so much fun. And as you can see, the birthday boy had a great time.

Thanksgiving Weekend

We had a lot of fun with family this Thanksgiving weekend. We celebrated Thanksgiving at the Stewart's house and had lots of delicious food. Brandon's cousin Owen and his wife Maki came over too with their darling son Zen.

Ella was excited to meet her second cousin. As you can see she really liked him.

(If you're wondering what happened to Ella's hair, Brandon was trying to hold the baby and eat mashed potatoes & gravy at the same time. Result = gravy head)

On Saturday evening we drove to Rancho Santa Fe for my cousin's wedding reception. The clouds got darker and darker as we drove and it was pouring by the time we got there.

It was a fun trip though, and a beautiful reception for a beautiful couple.

Thanksgiving is (almost) here!
I am ready to eat. But more importantly, I have so much to be thankful for. I won't bore you with the entire list, but I will say that I am thankful to be a mother and a wife and to have an AMAZING family that gives me so much support and love.
I am thankful for all the men and women who have left their families and their comfortable homes to serve as missionaries and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ all over the world, and to those who are also away serving in our military and keeping us safe. We are writing letters to missionaries tonight for the youth activity at church. If you want to say thank you to our troops, there is a cool website called Let's Say Thanks where you can send a post card to military personnel stationed overseas. It takes about two minutes, and you don't have to give them any personal information like your email or anything. It's a small gesture, but I'm sure it will make someone's day.
I am grateful for this time of year when we are reminded to really focus not on the problems and challenges that we all face daily, but on the things we have been given. I feel so blessed to have the life that I do and I hope I can remember that every day.

Has your foot ever been baptized in orange soda? If not, you are lucky. It is not so fun to get out of your car in the Vons parking lot and step on a full cup of sticky orange nastiness... in sandals. I was unfortunate enough to have this experience yesterday and it got me thinking about how lazy people are that they can't even walk to the trash can (which was only 10 feet away max!) or at least hold their trash in their car until they get home.

I have to admit that I was once guilty of this crime, but I was just a kid, so I can say I didn't know any better. I learned at a young age that littering is a no-no. One fine day as a youngster, I was happily enjoying my pudding snack in the parking lot while mom quickly ran into the store. When I was done, I of course didn't want to hold the trash all the way home, so I carefully placed it on the ground outside the door of our car (sweet dodge caravan). We were a good distance from the store when my mom realized I no longer had my snack and asked what I had done with the trash. I casually admitted it's new location, thinking it was no big deal. I had seen other people do this, so isn't it okay? Needless to say mom was shocked. I learned my lesson when she turned the car around and drove back to the store so I could properly dispose of my garbage.

I am glad I had a mother who taught me this lesson. Why is it that some people, adults even, feel it is okay to use the parking lot as a trash can? Did their parents never teach them this lesson? Do they just have no respect for their community? Do they not mind walking around in a sea of trash? Don't even get me started about cigarette butts thrown out the window or dropped on the ground... I may not be the most "green" person, but I at least put my garbage (half empty soda cups included) where it belongs. And that place is not in my shoe!

Some Firsts

This month Ella had a few firsts.

She experienced her first time in a swimming pool. Luckily it was heated so it felt like bath water. Daddy took her around and she would kick her little legs like crazy. She loved it!

She met her cousins the Higbees for the first time who were visiting from Provo.

She also had her first Halloween. We went over to Grams' house and passed out candy. Ella had so much fun she fell asleep with all her toys.

Ella laughed out loud for the first time this month too. Our attempts to get this on video have been unsuccessful. She always stops when the camera comes on, but hopefully we can catch it soon.

Ella's two month birthday is today! To celebrate we took her to the doctor to get some shots :( Poor thing. She actually did really great though. She got six vaccinations in all. One oral, three shots. I was dreading this day for weeks and was so worried about how she would react. But the nurse was so speedy, Ella had barely started to cry and the nurse was done. She only cried for a few seconds and as soon as I picked her up, she was totally over it. What a trooper.

She weighed in at 14 pounds 4 ounces, and is 23 inches long. She is a healthy girl!! We joke that I must be producing chocolate milk or something :) But we are happy she is growing and getting strong. She is such a good baby. We are so happy to have her in our lives! Happy two month Birthday Ella!

Ella's first Angel game

Last Thursday we had the opportunity to go to the Angels vs. Red Sox play off game at Angel Stadium. Brandon's parents were able to get Diamond Club tickets behind home plate. They were pretty amazing seats. Ella got to wear her Angel's gear and experience her first game.

The game was amazing. Ella slept a lot, but she had a good time looking around at all the people. She was also very cuddly and kept us warm :)

I think she is a good luck charm because the Angels won that game and went on to sweep the Sox in that series. They are now moving on to play the Yankees in the American League Championship.

Dad was so nervous for his team, but they came through!

We had so much fun at the game and can't wait for the Angels to go all the way this year!!!

Life has been crazy with our little bundle. She is now almost 8 weeks and weighs over 13 pounds! She is really starting to act less like a little ball of clay and more like a little baby. It's so cute. She makes all sorts of noises and faces. She is the most adorable thing EVER. She is such a good baby. She even went SEVEN hours between feedings last night and the night before *New record*. She is great at holding up her head and she has even rolled over twice. Here are some pics.

I am sad summer is over, but I am enjoying the cooler weather. I don't think our apartment has been below 75 degrees in the last three months, but today I woke up and it was 70 degrees! Very nice. I can finally put Ella in some of her cooler clothes. I am really looking forward to the fall. Ella is excited to meet her cousins that are coming down to visit soon! And the holidays will be here before we know it... Lots to do!

Welcome Baby Ella

Ella Renee Stewart was born on Friday August 14th, 2009. Weighing in at 9 pounds 3 ounces. 20.5 inches long.

The Birth Story
I was one week late so we went to the hospital Friday morning at 8 am for me to be induced. I wasn't feeling any of the contractions at that point and I was dialated 4 cm (out of 10). They broke my water at 9 am and started me on a small dose of pitocin, after which I began to feel some of the contractions, but the pain was not too bad. At 11 am I was dialated 5 cm and they estimated I would continue to dialate 1 cm per hour. They gave me the epidural *life saver* and after that I was completely numb and could hardly feel a thing. At 1 pm the contractions were getting closer together and a little more painful so I asked if I could push the button for more juice from the epidural. They checked to see how far along I was and I was surprisingly dialated to 9.5! Time to get pushing! ...However, my doctor had yet to arrive! We started pushing anyway and the doctor came running in around 2 pm. Ella showed up at 2:55 and Brandon and I were so elated! It was so amazing to see her face.

We were going to have to share a room with another patient and Brandon was not able to stay the night according to the hospital policy, however, they ran out of the shared rooms so we got a private room that they normally charge $300 for, for free! The room was great and I was SO glad Brandon could stay the night with me. The first night was pretty rough as Ella did not sleep at all from 8:30pm to 6:30am. It was great to have him there as we were both feeling pretty overwhelmed by morning!

It was really helpful to have my mom and Brandon there to help me push and get through it all. Brandon was such a great "coach" and was so sweet to me the whole time. He is the best daddy and loves his girls so much!

Ella is wonderful and having a great time eating, sleeping, working out her lungs, and making us guess what she wants :)
Thanks so much to everyone for the visits, meals, and support. I know that things would not have gone so smoothly if not for all the prayers that were said for us. We are so blessed to have such great family and friends and a wonderful new piece of heaven to add to our lives.

Angel Game

Wally and Donna Waite were kind enough to share their awesome seats at Angel Stadium with us last night. Of course the Angels won because I rubbed my belly for good luck! We were a little hesitant to go as I am a few days past my due date, but I am feeling ok as long as I take it easy. Maybe part of us was secretly wishing she would be born at the stadium and it would be this amazing story that would make headlines and all the players would come over and take pictures with us, and Mike Scioscia would give us free tickets for life. Oh well, maybe next time!

A foul ball bounced around and landed right in front of Donna. She picked it up and handed it to Brandon, but aparently the ball had hit a little girl a few seats away from us before it made it's way to us. So everyone starting chanting for Brandon to "Give her the ball!" So with all the peer pressure, Brandon was nice enough to give it to the little girl (who we think was just startled more than actually injured). So everyone cheered that Brandon was such a nice guy. Then an usher heard that Brandon gave away the ball so he brought Brandon another ball that the team had used that day! Lesson learned: kindness is rewarded!

Some crazy Dodger fan kept standing up and yelling about how great the Dodgers are (like anyone cares at an ANGEL game). So people started getting annoyed with him and security eventually escorted him out. As you can see in this video Brandon captured, some fan took his hat and threw it. It actually made it all the way onto the field. It was pretty entertaining.

We go to see Vlad get two home runs, the second of which was his 400th career home run. Way to go Vlad, maybe you do have a little bit of juice left in you! We are starting a fund to buy him a Hover-round scooter for getting around the outfield. Let us know if you'd like to contribute.

Thanks to Wally and Donna for the fun game! Donna gave me a cute Angels diaper bag with some goodies for the baby! We have an appointment Friday at 8 am for me to be induced if baby doesn't come before then. Just a few more days and she should be here!

Catching Up!

We have had a super fun summer so far. I am almost ready to pop with our baby girl, and yes, we are still undecided on a name. I think we are hoping she will tell us what she wants to be called when she gets here. I am off work now waiting for the baby to come, and am really enjoying my time off. Just trying to stay cool and get as much rest as I can. Here is some of what we've been up to this summer.

We had a new neice born in May, Eva Cecilia. James and Natllely are such great parents to her, and we are so excited for our little girl to have a cousin so close in age!

We had an awesome Stewart Family reunion over Fourth of July weekend. It was really great to see everyone. All the kids had such a fun time in Grams' pool.

Story Time!

Brandon has been practicing his parenting skills with our neices and nephews. I know he is going to be the funnest daddy ever.

I had a really fun baby shower on July 18th. It was so great to see family and friends. Our little girl got some really cute things. Like this beautiful quilt my Grandma made. She also got a swing, a car seat and tons of adorable clothes and toys.

We celebrated Grandma Long's 70th birthday last weekend with some BBQ and swimming. The kids loved the bounce house, or as Riley called it, the "boinga boinga".

Walk for Autism

Team We Love Josh had a super fun time today doing the Walk for Autism in Pasadena. It was great to see so many people and a lot of great booths with information and resources. The weather couldn't have been better. We took the short route so Chelsea didn't get too worn out. It turned out to be really short, but that was just fine for some of us! Thanks so much to Lindsay for planning this all for us (and for the sweet buttons). Brandon showed his appreciation by pouring his water bottle on Lindsay's head (since we didn't have a cooler of Gatorade). I know she really appreciated that... well, maybe not :) Thanks so much to all who donated and participated. Over $1 million was raised! I'm really glad we were able to do something to try to make a difference (even though small) for kids everywhere, but especially for our wonderful Josh!

Brandon and I are participating in Walk Now for Autism on April 25th in honor of our adorable nephew Josh.

Brandon's sister Lindsay came up with the idea to do this as a birthday present for their sister Megan whose son Josh was diagnosed with Autism last year.

Josh is such a sweet and fun loving little boy. Megan and Jason are such great parents to him and do so much to help him get the best care possible. This walk will help raise money for Autism Speaks which is an organization that raises awareness about autism and funds research for new treatments and a cure. Solvang Trip

This past weekend we went up to Solvang for a bike ride. We went up with Brandon's dad and some of my family was up there as well.

Everyone did such a great job. Brandon had a little technical problem with his bike, but he managed to get through it just fine.

I was really sad I couldn't go on the ride (being pregnant, it's not really safe). But I had a fun time walking around the town and eating danishes! It was a really fun weekend.

It's official: girls rule, boys drool! ....Ok not really, I love boys... but we are having a baby girl! We found out from today's ultrasound. She was so cute on the screen, doing flips and moving her little lips. She even got the hiccups while we were watching her! So cute! She was very active, but I can't really feel anything yet. We are so excited. Seeing her like that really makes us feel like parents now! I have a feeling August will come sooner than we think! So now on to names. We were thinking of combining my mom's and Brandon's mom's names Renee and Deborah to name her Reneborah, what do you think? haha

My Eggo is Prego

So, we have told family and a few close friends, but we are finally officially announcing that I am PREGNANT! YAY! I am 12 weeks along and due in August. We know you have all been waiting for this day, since we are such fine human beings, it only makes sense for us to reproduce! :) We went to the Doctor two weeks ago to hear the heartbeat and I was sort of waiting for that confirmation to really believe it was all real. But the Doctor couldn't find a heartbeat, so of course I was a little worried. But another trip today put my worries to rest. We heard the tiny thumping of our baby's ticker in there. It was pretty cool. So, so long to our carefree newlywed days and Hello to our exciting new life as parents! Wish us luck! We can use all the advice you are willing to share!

So we sat down at church today and guess who is sitting in the row in front of us? Well I guess if you read the title, you have already guessed. It was Stephenie Meyer, the author of the Twilight series. She was with her husband and three boys. We figured she is probably on vacation doing the Disneyland route since we live in Anaheim and get a lot of vacationers at our ward. I didn't want to bother her because if I was in her shoes I would probably appreciate being left alone, but someone asked her if she really was Stephenie Meyer and she said yes so my friend Marybeth and I just waved and smiled at her and she smiled back...and then of course we giggled like school girls because we are so mature!

Rain

I usually like the rain. That is, I like usually the rain if I am at home in my pjs sipping cocoa. Monday I did not like the rain. I walked out to leave for work at 6:30am and our whole parking lot was flooded. I mean giant rushing river flooded. I hiked up my pants and did my best to tip toe through the puddles, but when I got to my parking spot I realized the worst of it was right in front of my car. Since I had already made it this far, I knew there was no turning back. So I took three giant leaps and made it to the other side. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, my shoes decided not to come with me. I saw my little black flats floating down the river and realized my little black socks with candy canes on them were all I had left. I had no choice, but to dive into the river and get my shoes. So soaking wet, I threw my things in my car, cranked up the heater and headed to work. Luckily the defroster did a good job of drying my socks during my commute. Today, when I got home, I was not looking forward to the battle with the flood again. To my surprise, Brandon was waiting in my parking spot for me. He had come to rescue me from the storm and CARRIED me all the way up to our apartment! What more could a girl ask for?

our life update

So we have totally been slacking on posting, but for those of you who were wondering, we are still alive! Maybe we are too busy, or maybe our lives are just too uneventful! The fact that our camera is broken might be a factor as well. So, what's new with us? Well, Brandon has been riding his new bike a lot. He loves it. He is training to ride the century in Solvang next March. Yes, that's 100 miles... and yes he is crazy. I go with him when I can keep up. I'm sticking to the 50 mile rides, thanks! As for me, I have been super busy with school, just trying to hold on until the end of the semester mercifully comes in three weeks. Hooray! Of course I have to mention that i saw TWILIGHT last night! And it was Awesome! I really thought it would be cheesy and lame based on the previews, but I was so wrong! It was great and I cannot wait to see it again! Next week we are going up to Utah for Thanksgiving and staying with some of Brandon's family. I am so excited! It will be so nice to take some time off work and spend time with family and eat lots of food! My three favorite things to do! Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Another Tough Playoff Exit

So that's it, the Angels are done for the season. Although they completed their most successful year in franchise history, with 100 wins, they failed to get past the Red Sox in the ALDS for the second consequtive year and the third time in five years. No more Angels baseball until March 2009... I hesitate to get excited because Brandon will now be focusing all that free time on football and other things I don't care about. At least baseball I enjoy.

Fortunately, the Waites were kind enough to take Brandon and I to last Wednesday nights game. Although it was a tough loss to the Red Sox, we were able to experience some firsts: First time at a post season game, first time at a Red Sox game, and FIRST TIME ON TV!! Check us out:

When we got there, we were given these red posters that could be folded up like an accordion and whacked against anything to make a loud noise! Brandon liked his a lot! We were excited for the experience, but sad for the loss.

We will miss you Angels.

Adventures in MEXICO

Last weekend we took a trip down to Mexico to participate in a 50-mile bike ride from Rosarito to Ensenada. Here is a link to a video about the ride. It was a pretty crazy experience.

After getting a little lost right across the border, we arrived in Ensenada on Friday evening. We had dinner at a little restaurant where a drunk lady in the group behind us cackled at ear-splitting decibels and Mariachi trumpets blasted our faces off, but the food was good. We then browsed the shops and tried to get a good bargain on a TJ blanket before heading to our hotel. The hotel had a nice jail cell/monastery motif, and the blankets smelled a little funny, but it was just part of the experience. Saturday morning we loaded up our bikes onto a taxi and drove the 50 miles to the starting line in Rosarito. There was six of us piled in the van and our driver was apparently in a real hurry. We had to be doing at leat 80 around the winding curves of the canyon. With bikes stacked on top and behind, we were in no position to be going that fast. But, fortunately we made it to the starting line in one piece. (Our bikes did too.)

The worst part of the day came right after we started, when I, fumbling with my jacket, ran into the back of Brandon's bike and ate it pretty hard. It was all kind of in slow motion. I just remember thinking, "I'm goin' down!" and then I was in the dirt. Luckily I rode away with just a scraped knee. Brandon's bike wasn't as lucky. Unfortunately, my fall had broken the gears on his bike and he couldn't ride it! Brandon was pretty upset. He thought that was it for him. But luckily, the Mexican MacGyvers came to the rescue. Two local gentlemen scavenged the side of the road for some wire and rigged Brandon's bike up so he could pedal it to the next check point. Brandon got his bike fixed and I got some awesome fish tacos at the Halfway House and then we were back on the road. 50 miles is a lot farther than it seems. Especially when the road looks like the one you take to Big Bear. Straight UP and curvy. Yes, there were some pretty monstrous hills. Brandon, being the buff hunk that he is, never even got off his bike to push it up the hill like I had to, he pedaled the whole way! He also beat me to the finish by about an hour! I stayed with my mom and we finally got to the finish line in Ensenada around 5 that evening. We were all pretty exhausted. We got our T-shirts, scarfed some enchiladas, and crashed. Sunday we said Adios to good old Mexico and headed home to get some well-needed rest.

Brandon's Photo Caption Contest

I am ambivalent about blogs. To me they essentially provide a means of staying informed about the lives of friends and family without having to make the effort of actually talking to them. On the other hand I think that blogs can be incredibly boring. I feel that a good blog is one that chronicles an event in someone’s life. Sadly, Chelsea and I lead pretty uneventful lives. So instead I have decided to post this picture.

This is my favorite childhood picture. I think my mother took it when I was six or seven years old. My mother affectionately titled it “He-Man Takes a Break” I love this caption. I feel that it captured the essence of my youth. Those not in my immediate family may not realize that I was a very hyper kid. My mom always said that I would run around and around until I just crashed. I am sure she was at least a little relived when I finally feel asleep, which must have been the motivation when she took the picture.

So I have decided that for my first attempt at blogging I would hold a caption-writing contest. Rules are simple. Just post a new photo caption. I will choose the winner in a couple weeks. In addition to the pride that comes with winning such a contest the winner will also receive an autographed copy of the above photo.

MIDWAY MANIA!

If you haven't had the chance to go on the new ride Toy Story Midway Mania at California Adventure you are seriously missing out. We got to go on it as a sneak peak the week before it came out. We thought it would be just like Buzz Lightyear, but it is 200 times better! We went last Saturday with Brandon's parents and his sister Lindsay. It wasn't that crowded so we went on it twice. It is so much fun.

We have found ourselves going to CA Adventure more than Disneyland just because it can be a much more relaxing experience. It is laid out to avoid bottle necks and there's never bad crowds. Even for a new ride the line was only 30-40 minutes. Thanks to Brandon's parents for the season passes for Brandon's graduation gift. We get so much use out of them living only a couple miles away. I think it is safe to say this is my new favorite ride!

Into the Wild

On Sunday evening Brandon and I were taking a walk and we saw three giant green parrots in the trees outside our apartment. Since we live in an Anaheim apartment complex, your reaction would be that this is strange. But looking back on the three plus years we have lived in here, I realized we have had a lot of experiences with animals in our apartment complex.

Brandon once pulled a drowning baby opossum from the swimming pool with a hook. We see them wandering around now and then. Another night, we woke up to loud quacking and found a mother duck trying to protect her babies from a racoon at the pond right below our balcony. Brandon did a good job of saving them too by scaring away the racoon with his flashlight. Each year the ducks return and raise their babies in the pond. It's fun to see them every day and they aren't too shy. It's a good thing Brandon is around to protect them! Here is a picture of the mom and her ducklings.

We named the mom Juniper, and the dad is Larry, but he never sticks around to help raise the kids! :)

Fourth of July

Happy belated fourth of July! We had a great fourth of July weekend. We went to California adventure Friday morning then went to the Angel game with Brandon's family. It was so much fun. And of course the Angel Stadium fireworks were Awesome! On Saturday we went to Newport Beach with the McCourts and suprisingly it wasn't too crowded. The weather was so perfect, it was so great to relax and have some fun.

Dunder Mifflin!

So if you know Brandon at all, you know he is a huge fan of The Office, as am I. Brandon had heard that the show was filmed out in the Burbank area. We happened to be in that area today, so we decided to go on a little adventure and track it down. After lots of mapquesting and wrong turns, we discovered the parking lot of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, the Scranton branch, which is actually in Panorama City. Lo and Behold!!

We could even see Michael Scott's parking space with his name on it! It was a pretty awesome find!

Lake Havasu

This week we went out to Lake Havasu AZ with my family. We had such a fun time! My Aunt has a condo and boat out there and she was generous enough to let us come play for a few days. It got up to 116 degrees (!) but the water was great so we stayed in it as much as we could! Here is us with our neice Riley. Brandon did it! He graduated from UC Irvine on Sunday with a bachelors degree in Political Science. He has worked so hard. Everyone is so proud of him, especially me!
